On October 7, 2020, I accepted a full-time position as Senior Associate with Justice & Sustainability Associates, a firm I first worked with twenty years earlier, when it was a startup. JSA is a consulting firm that designs and facilitates multi-stakeholder processes for inclusive governance, including those involving visioning, public engagement, consensus building and the setting up of advisory boards.

By January 1, the company had created a new position for me: Director of Research & Education, enabling me to work across multiple practice areas of the firm, including Planning & Development, Transportation & Infrastructure, Sustainability & Resilience, and History & Conciliation.

The company allows me to work remotely, so I can live wherever I want. In January 2021, I moved into a new home in Baltimore, Maryland, leaving behind a neighborhood that I loved dearly — and that loved me back: Little Havana in Miami, Florida.

I wanted to move closer to my family, which is based in Massachusetts, and yet stay to JSA and my many friends in the District, where I lived from 1998 to 2006.

In September of 2021, I am moving into a NEW home in Baltimore. Stay tuned for details! Moreover, while I may live in Baltimore, I still live a “bi-regional” life, traveling to Miami regularly, writing freelance articles for Calle Ocho News, teaching occasional classes at Florida International University, and even leading walking tours. I am currently working on developing a new course for the exciting CasaCuba initiative of FIU’s Honor College.
